I want to buy a bowel!

The night market was very very interesting! The merchandise section was a bit smaller than we'd hoped (but I later learned that we missed most of it as the covered portion of the market is really only the food stuff...oops!!), but the food section was astounding. The variety of things available for sale was dumbfounding. And if you wanted to buy a bowel, this is the place to do it!

Eric and Nicole are looking for some dinosaur slippers for their son who loves Ni hao Kailan about as much as Kailin does, and we walked over to a stand to have a look. It turns out it was some sort of game for kids involving live shrimp...but the kids were darn cute! Nearby, they were skewering live shrimp and then throwing them right on the barbie.... it was not a pleasant thing to watch, but I'll share it with you anyway.

There were stands selling fruit drinks of every kind and every kind of meat, vegetable, or egg dish you could possibly imagine. It truly was overwhelming (and so was the sauerkraut smell that came from a few of the stands!).

Despite the huge variety of foods available, these people (I don't know if you can truly see the line here, but it was massive!) are all waiting in line to eat chicken in a bag. From what we could see, it was basically an entire chicken (minus the head and perhaps the feet) fried, and put in a bag. Nicole saw a little kid eating a whole one!! Sunnie and Bill told us the Chinese love their fried chicken (attested to by this and also the fact that there were people lined up in the KFC at 9am yesterday!).

Steve and Eric were determined to eat some food on a stick. Eric got pork of some sort while Steve went for the gusto and got chicken kidneys - on a stick. Yes, innards on a stick an all American favorite. I guess it's true what they say about us Americans - put it on a stick and we'll eat anything...

We actually weren't very hungry yet (or perhaps we were less hungry after the foods on a stick experience), so we all indulged in a cream puff sort of thing - filled fresh with your choice of strawberry, blueberry, chocolate, cream, green tea flavor) or red bean - and decided to head back to the hotel.
